Although RIPv2 presents some decided improvements over RIPv1, it is still limited to a maximum of 15 hops and, therefore, to small internetworks. Chapters 8, "Enhanced Interior Gateway Routing Protocol (EIGRP),"

and 10, "Integrated IS-IS,"
examine three protocols that can be used in much larger internetworks and with which design strategies such as VLSM become very powerful tools for controlling them.
